Getting her Zalo

She helped you, answered you, or simply gave you thirty seconds of her time.

How to say “Thanks!” in Vietnamese

Cảm ơn em nha!

kam un em nya

Rough sound, not the tones. Short sentence, and smile.

literally: thank you particle

Safe

Why it works

The 'nha' turns a formal thank you into a warm one. It is how you leave any interaction in Vietnam, and it costs nothing.

What she says back

  • Dạ, không có gì.She's curious

    Not at all.

The standard warm close. Leave it there: restarting a conversation you have just ended politely is what makes the next hello awkward.

  • Không có chi.She's curious

    You're welcome.

The Southern version, and a good sign that she is comfortable. Same thing: smile and go.

  • Dạ.Could go either way

    Mm.

Polite but flat. She is done. Nothing failed; this is simply how most thirty-second exchanges end.
